Yayoi Kusama is often referred to as the polka dot artist. She was born on March 22, 1929 in Matsumoto,Nagano. At an early age of 10 she had hallucinations of flowers talking to her or that they would come to life. During her upbringing she made parachutes for world war II and she worked on her art and She had no support from her parents. This caused her to burn much of her earlier art in anger. She first studied the traditional 1000 year old Japanese styles. She ended up bot liking this way for her art and experimented with different mediums through her lifetime. These include: Performance, drawing, painting, sculpture etc.. Unfortunately, due to her mental illness she had to check in herself into a mental hospital. This did not stop her from getting out her art to the world. She had an agreement with the hospital so that she could continue her work without the constraints of the hospital. Her artworks include the Obliteration Room, Infinity Mirror Room Fireflies on Water, Sea, and many more. She is a very inspiring. She overcame her life struggles and obstacles and continued with what she loved.
Reflection
Overall I had a very fun time with making the video and script. Looking at all her art it was so hard to believe all the challenges that she faced because of how happy her art looks. It is sad to know that her earlier art was put to the fire. We don't even know how they looked and it would be nice to see another side of her before she came to her own. The challenge about this project was adding voices with music. Getting the volumes right so they wouldn't conflict was a bit of a challenge but I believe that I got it down.
